Preparing

I started this blog the first of 2008, not really knowing what I was doing or planning to do. Some days it was easy. Some days it was hard. This blog has helped me communicate the deep and heavy things on my heart as well as share the hilarious stories provided by my crazy family.

And, guess what? People actually read this blog. I mean, people other than my family. Can you believe it? I didn't really expect anyone too. And I definitely could never have anticipated that strangers would take an interest in this blog and begin to follow my story.

I'm not particularly crafty or creative. I don't have awesome giveaways on the blog or give you money-saving coupon tips. But, go figure! There are hundreds of you from all over the world that stop by and visit.

Soon, I'm going to do a fun contest to try and find out who some of you are, how you found Homesick, and why you've stuck around.

But not now. Friday, I am headed out of town to meet one of my blog readers. How cool! She is a friend of a friend and has been reading the blog for over a year. Earlier this year, she asked if I would come speak at her church's women's retreat, which is this Saturday. I am very excited for this opportunity but am also a little freaked out. There will be 250 ladies there! (Hope she isn't reading this part.)

I plan to share more about this later. Right now, I'm busy preparing and praying! But I'm looking forward to the weekend and getting to meet up with my college roomie who will be singing at the retreat.

I Peter 3:15 says,

"Always be prepared to give an answer when others ask you the

reason for the Hope that you have."

This is what I plan to do.

I am "here" reading this part this morning. I too would be nervous about the number of ladies in attendance if I was having to speak but I have confidence that God has the right speaker coming for the right time. I have been praying for you and know that God will work through you on Saturday.

This is an unusual way to "find" a guest speaker for an event but reading your blog has encouraged me in my own spiritual walk and in my journey as a first time mom.

I look forward to actually meeting you in person and I know you have a family here who is super excited to see you too!

Hmm, I think I found your blog via Kim's blog 3 Peanuts. If I'm correct it was while they were waiting to bring home their precious baby girl, Kate. I LOVE reading your blog because it seems you're able to bring your thoughts across as if I'm sitting talking to you. And I always say that finding a good blog is better than finding a good book. :) You'll do great at the retreat Lauren. God gave you a story...use it for HIS glory!!!

I found your blog by accident and I absolutely love it. Your blog makes me laugh, smile, cry, and hope. You are a wonderful example of a Christian woman. I am encouraged by your words and I look forward to every entry. I live in Golden, CO and by reading your blog I feel like we are friends. Thanks so much for sharing your story. You are an inspiration!
Best Regards,

What a great message of hope and encouragement you brought to the Ladies Luncheon on Saturday. Kim was really lead of the Lord to invite you and I am very glad she was. I have been praying for you since Shana sent out the email of your sons death. Now to put a face with my prayers is great. Thank you for "sharing your story" not only of the hard part but that there is hope and God is still in control. You were/are a real blessing.

I wanted you to know I read your blog. I love your faith and strength! I found you through 3 Peanuts.

This may sound weird, but you have helped me to appreciate the everyday mundane tasks of being a mom and that however mundane they seem and may be, they are truly a gift!

Thank you for that!

God Bless!
