10 Things I Forgot about Being a New Mom

  1. Coffee is Amazing!
  2. Sleep is overrated.
  3. Hot baths are underrated.
  4. Baby poop smells like buttered popcorn - which is why I always opt for Raisinettes at the movies. The Movies?? Who are we kidding...
  5. Don't try and change a baby boy's diaper in the dark in the middle of the night.
  6. Microwave dinners are really tasty.
  7. It's very dark outside at 4 a.m.
  8. My pain tolerance level is phenomenal.
  9. My noise tolerance level is pretty amazing too.
  10. Regardless, I would do it all again...

And...there is nothing you can do about that new mom jelly belly. People still think I'm pregnant and I have a 3 week old! :)

You are such an amazing mom! I really enjoy reading your posts. I will, however suggest that instead of changing a diaper in the dark, try putting a blue lightbulb in the light in his room (if there is a lamp, not the overhead) and this sheds enough light for you to see by and not really enough to wake little man...at least that is what I found. hth.

Lauren, you word it SO well. I know the feeling. My husband and I are foster parents and last New Year we had the privilege of bringing home a newborn baby boy from the hospital. I loved the fact that I didn't have to share him for midnight feedings. After 4 bio daughters I learned REAL quick that you ALWAYS need to use a light during late night/early morning diaper changes. I don't think I slept for the 3 months we had him. I thanked God daily for the precious little blessing this baby was to our family. Pure adrenaline. My husband said I didn't complain once about the lack of sleep and there was always a smile on my face. I really thought that God had decided to give us the boy of our dreams. We thought adoption was a sure thing. Unfortunatly, after 3 short months his grandma took him to live with her. I haven't seen him since. That was a year ago. I have NO regrets and YES we still foster. My happy thought that gets me through each day is the fact that God STILL may decide to bless us with another baby boy and HE might stay forever and I wouldn't give up on THAT for anything...so we wait... Evely and sweet Caleb are so blessed to have such a wonderful mommy.

I second that list!!! We have a 7 month old little girl and two three year olds (one adopted from China)...she has yet to sleep through the night but as I nurse her at 3 in the morning I sing the song to myself "You're gonna miss this..." ...she's probably my last so I try and treasure every moment!
God Bless!
